Food companies reject GM wheat

In March 2012 GM Freeze, The Real Bread Campaign and Ethical Consumer wrote to hundreds of bakeries, mills, food processors, supermarkets, grain handlers and restaurant chains big and small asking for their company policy on using GM wheat as an ingredient or handling GM wheat in their facilities.

This is what they said.

Below is a list of those small companies responding to our letter and a selection of the larger companies we contacted so you can see who didn't respond. We will add responses as we receive them.

As you know, before a GM organism can be sold or used within the EU it must go through a rigorous testing process to see whether it is safe for humans and the environment. Therefore it seems reasonable, in the interests of using scientific evidence as a basis for support or opposition of a new technology, that part of this testing process should involve growing trials under strict conditions with a research institute such as Rothamsted Research."
